Let's talk Strategy!

Hazzaman's Thoughts:
- First Pick
Ban Champions that we don't want to play, but not our major give away, ban the 2-4th worst champions. And first pick the worst.
- Second Pick
Same as above but ban 1-3. Simple!

  1. It looks like Evelyn is stereotypically considered a "worst champion", and so lots of people are saying that should be the first pick for the enemy team. But I've not had a lot of practice against playing against stealth units (Teemo annoys me a lot, for example), so I think we should also have a discussion about our team's strengths and weaknesses and base our picks around specifically what we are good at countering, rather than what the conventional wisdom would say are the best picks.

  2. I main support(I <3 Karma), but in general I love playing AD bruisers(Olaf, Mundo, Xin) I also enjoy jungling, although I am not great at it. My personal hate/avoid at all costs champs are Shaco, Trynd, Malz, Vayne, and Rammus. I like to be aggressive, so I guess I am good at countering champs who want to hide in the back and punish them for being out of position.

  3. I just started playing Normal Draft a few days ago (can't play ranked 'cause not level 30 yet), but I love playing support, especially with Sona. Otherwise, I prefer tanky champions like Nunu or Mundo. I have trouble playing against Trynd and Urgot. Shaco seems like a character I'd have trouble playing against, but I rarely see anyone take him, so I'm not sure if he's actually all that tough to play against in practice. I really have no idea who "bad" champions are; they all seem decent to me depending on the situation, so it seems to me that if we wanted to screw over the enemy, it'd be by intentionally giving them poor team composition. So what would be the worst team comp possible? An all-support team? An all-tank team? We should probably make them all AP or all AD, to make our item builds easier to manage.

  4. Someone mentioned 5 carries with no CC would be a pretty bad composition, since carries need farm, with 5 carries, you're guaranteeing that 2 out of the 5 players won't be able to do anything starting from mid-game, so every fight will be 5v3.

  5. The trick isn't in the team comp, its choosing champions that can only be built in a certain way, and forcing them into other positions. Same applies to us, just assign each champion a position and build it that way. Personally I play most positions, however top appears to be my strongest. I also think its in the meta, so if we play something out of the ordinary we stand a better chance. If we do something that will snowball hard (because most champions that are considered "bad" are so because they have a bad late game) work a good early game and practice champions that we may be given.

  7. I can play every position so I can fill in the cracks in our team comp.

    Varus is broken as fuck, I say we don't ban him in case they give him to us but dont pick him for them.

    Trundle might be a good pick to force on the other team, but his strengths are good single target damage and he is an underrated jungler.

    katarina might also be a good pick to force on them, shes like an ap carry assassin but hard cc makes her ulti useless. some people can play her godly so it may be risky.

    Fiddlesticks! he can only jungle right now and if you take his blue constantly he becomes useless. also may be risky because people who are good with him are REALLY good.

    we could force people into nasus as long as we make sure he doesnt get farmed.

    heimer would be good to force on people, some people are good with him but most find him boring to play which might give us an edge.

    sivir is probably the worst ad carry right now but she counters some ads so we should be careful putting her on teams.

    tryndamere and zilean can really hold a team back but they also have the potential to be really, REALLY annoying.

    we could abuse putting yi on other teams because he is countered by hard cc but again some people can get fed and do well with him.



    xin zhao and rammus are two of the weakest champs right now imo along with eve and twitch.



    basically we want to ignore champs we would normally play and ban ones we dont want on our team.

  8. chimerasoul you really like karma, we could use that to our advantage as most people consider her lackluster and will be prone to placing her on other peoples teams. (we may also want to put her on other teams)



    I think our overarching strategy should be to compose them into low damage teams.

    get them like rammus nunu garen maokai yorick.

    keep in mind that is a REALLY tanky team, but all their damage is nunu ulti really. That team also has good cc so we might want to be careful doing that.

  10. I don't know if there is a subreddit for it, but all the information I have gotten beyond the original postings has come from that email chain with all of us in it.

    As a side-bar I normally jungle or AD range carry.

    war, I lke how you are thinking with the screwing of comps, but you are right that would be a very, VERY tanky team you propose.

    I do like the idea of sticking them with weird comps, but we should take into account the limitations we have and can make with our champion pools as well.

    I don't want to call anyone out or any of that nonsense, but does everyone have the minimum 16 champions necessary to play?

    Also Do we want to play the 25 champ pool game?

    If you don't mind I will post a list of all of my available champions in a seperate post here, and I would love to see what everyone else is working with

    Also in refrence to Shako, if played right he is an amazing jungler with superb ganks, sticking him on another team would be like playing russian roulette... do they have someone good with him? If yes prepare for incoming shitstorm (same with Yi on all counts for that matter)

    I only have 9 champions, and I sent my list of 9 champs to the organizer, but she seemed to be fine with it, so I'm really not sure what's going on with that.

  13. @Nebu I know, and I don't want to see you/us disqualified for something as silly as a low champion count which is why I asked. Again nothing personal, just trying to make sure all the bases are covered.

    As for a 5th I have no idea what happened to the other guy(s) that were in the original mailing, however I am sure we could scrape someone up from our collective friends lists. I know I have a few who might be interested and are currently not bound to a team.

  14. Okay, I e-mailed the organizer about the 16 champion rule. Here's what I wrote:

    > I just wanted to get a clarification about the “16 champion” rule. It says “minimum of 16 champions, including free champions.”, and right now I have 9 owned champions, with 1 overlap with the free champions this week, which gives me 18 available champions this week. Let’s say when the tournament starts, I get unlucky and a lot of the free champions overlap with my owned champion, such that I fall below 16 available champions. What would happen then? Can I just buy more champions at that point to bring me back up to 16? Would I have to submit my new list of champions at that point?

    Hopefully I'll get an answer from her soon.

  15. Okay, I got a reply. She writes:

    "Yes, you may purchase more champions at that point, provided you give the opponent team an updated list of your champion pool. You can e-mail me 24 hours in advance which champs you're going to buy and stuff, but if the free champs don't work out in your favor on Tuesdays I can always work something out before the match."
